'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the dramatic dying seconds of Swansea's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and the defender immediately slammed home the loose ball before charging toward the home end to celebrate, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result capped an incredible turnaround given the team had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory secured a upcoming game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's volley from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed shape. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who praised the way his former team attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the basics and simple things, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they understand how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can feel you're all right and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It requires a strong mentality and focus just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has quickly replicated that in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a loan at fourth-tier Salford City, before he departed his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a slightly green going into men's football. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has shown that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

It has been an incredible journey for the player from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his dad, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

His only game for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was shut owing to conditions of bitter cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was cold out there," he comments, smiling. "The preceding week, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I believed I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a minibus driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to interact with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the following person to stop using the bus and on the road. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would mix with fans on London's Central line after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
